2025 GCO Christmas Scramble, Old Town Roseville
Dec. 21st, 2025
This was GCO’s inaugural meet on our new street map of Old Town Roseville (and environs). Thanks to D.D.F., the CSUS I.T. Department, and Maputnik for a very readable map of a very runnable area.
Format was 90 minute scramble with mass start and 21 possible controls. False threats of rain may have discouraged turnout, with 24 teams entering. Five racers found all controls in the allotted time, with another 2 missing just one.
Some issues arose over identifying the type of Christmas ornament over the back fence (they sure looked like globes to me!) and in the counting of eyeballs (there were 13 ½ , with most in the bottom left of the mural). Credit was given for other believable (or whine-able) answers; the intent is just to prove you got to the control. Some others had trouble finding the word HERRING in the very center of the historical marker on the wall in Old Town: word blindness, perhaps?
The setter (course, not Irish) extends his sincere gratitude to all who helped out, including several family members who vetted the course, and Jonas, Dans (R. and L.), Kyle, Paul, and Ryan. Apologies to those whose names I am too old to remember.
Most participants seemed to have a good time, before, during, and after the race. Let’s do it again sometime!
Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night. And a Happy New Year.
