Mississippi Bar Score-O Meet
March 16th, 2025
Sunday March 16 ushered in Gold Country Orienteers first event of 2025. The weather cooperated, and Dan Rathbun set a challenging, fun-filled course. 38 orienteers put in their best efforts to find the 31 controls within the 90 minute time frame.
h control had a one point value. There was a hefty penalty of one point for every minute past the 90 minute limit.

Nik Weber was the top point getter with 26 controls and 0 penalty minutes. Ryan Zahner finished second with 22 points. Kyle Poland found the most controls of the day with a whopping 28! But a 7 point time penalty brought his score to 21 and third place. Frank Wangberg had a stunning finish, timing his course perfectly, coming in with only 5 seconds to spare! Bill Walter (duo) found 16 controls. David Arvinio’s Scouts did a fantastic job of finding 14 controls with only 3 minutes to spare. Well played Scouts! The rest of the field all did a fantastic job and appeared to have fun as well.
While orienteering is a competitive sport, the real competition is with each individual. Competitors challenge themselves more than one another. It is the cooperation and support between competitors that makes this such a great sport. In no other sport can first timers and world class athletes share the same challenges and emotions with one another
