Mississippi Bar
This site is on the north shore of Lake Natoma on the American River. The scenery is beautiful, especially along the lake where you can often see college students practicing their sculling. The terrain can be quite wild due to the tailings left by the mining operations that occurred here in the past. This can make for a very challenging course. There also are oak-studded hills and open plains.
Directions: Take Highway 50 east of Sacramento toward Folsom to the Hazel Avenue exit. Go north on Hazel (across the freeway and the river) about 2.5 km to Sunset Boulevard. Turn right on Sunset, continue to the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. Turn left on Main Avenue (the only direction you can go) approximately 250m to the horse stables on the right. Park in the lot closer to the road, not in the stables lot.
Mississippi Bar is part of Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
